Trish Mara BAET, CSEP-CEP, CSCS
Kinesiologist, Exercise Physiologist, and Strength and Conditioning Specialist
What inspired you to choose kinesiology as your mission?
I have always loved to be active and involved in sports. I was a high-level competitive gymnast and later became a competitive rower and member of the Canadian National Rowing team. Various specialists helped me overcome several injuries, emphasizing the use and importance of exercise. This sparked my interest and led me to pursue an Athletic and Exercise Therapy degree and become a certified Exercise Physiologist and Strength and Conditioning Specialist. I love my job, using exercise to help individuals of all ages achieve their goals, whether rehabbing from an injury or surgery, striving to be stronger and more competitive, or simply wanting to maintain or improve their strength and condition to live independently.
Where did you get your training?
I completed a degree in Athletic and Exercise Therapy at Camosun College in 2015. I became a registered Kinesiologist, certified Exercise Physiologist (CSEP-CEP), certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS), and Osteoporosis Bone Fit Specialist. I continue to take courses and certifications to stay current and provide the best care for my clients.
What do you do to stay active?
I love to stay active by rowing, running and cycling. Recently, I also found a new love for Coastal Beach Sprint Rowing.
What injuries or conditions have you overcome? How did you resolve the challenge?
I have had several injuries through the years. As a gymnast, I had many foot injuries and a broken hand. While rowing, I had two significant injuries that could have ended my career. I required major reconstructive hip surgery that required a very lengthy rehab, and I dealt with a very challenging back injury. These injuries taught me the importance of rehab exercises, keeping active, and being patient. I learned there is always a way to remain active regardless of injury.
Which of your life’s accomplishments are you most proud of?
My proudest accomplishments are being a member of the Canadian National Rowing team and successfully competing internationally. This experience taught me many invaluable life lessons, and helped me become a better therapist. Nothing makes me happier than seeing my clients accomplish their goals and enjoy their lives to the fullest!
What top three goals do you have yet to accomplish?
- To continue to learn the best ways to treat different conditions so that I can provide the best outcomes for all my clients.
- To compete for Canada again – this time as a member of the Canadian National Coastal Rowing Team.
- Continue to share my knowledge and expertise and encourage others to remain active throughout their lives.
What is your best advice to stay healthy for life?
Stay active so you can live your life to the fullest.
